Mel and Betty Sembler founded Straight Inc. and serve on the boards of almost every major domestic anti-drug program. They are longtime close associates of the Bush family, and are behind efforts to defeat medicinal marijuana initiatives all over the country. Despite the horrors that have surfaced about Straight and a history of court judgements against them for child abuse, Mel Sembler is currently serving as President Bush's ambassador to Italy and Governor Jeb Bush declared Aug. 8, 2000, "Betty Sembler Day" in Florida.

JURY CONVICTS MED MJ PATIENTS
Ignoring state law, a Sacramento jury convicted two men of harvesting marijuana, but acquitted them of sales.
CHRISTIE SUES HAWAI'I COUNTY COUNCIL
Roger Christie, a longtime marijuana advocate, filed a lawsuit against six Hawai'i County Council members for failing to do a review of the county's marijuana enforcement program. Christie previously won part of a $75,000 out-of-court settlement for illegal enforcement actions.
