Re: Newshawks: Cannabis Movement Coverage, Drugged Driving & Dan 'Traitor' McTeague
AlisonMyrden,
Wed Dec 3 17:19:32 2003 Dan McTeague IS that UNEDUCATED. I know from the Global Sunday Show. I kinda feel for him BECAUSE he THINKS he is being "popluar" by agreeing with "those in charge"... This seems somewhat irrational I agree, but it is important for him to be accepted within the ENTIRE community - I guarantee.
Please bombard him with studies on the MEDICAL and SOCIAL utitlity of Cannabis. He needs to learn to say "KNOW"...
Thanx waayyyy in advance...
Love and a squish, Alison xx
Re: Newshawks: Cannabis Movement Coverage, Drugged Driving & Dan 'Traitor' McTeague
Phd,
Wed Dec 3 16:51:37 2003 I am very concerned about the Dan McTeague section at the end of this clip. Either he doesn't know what he is talking about (and therefore shouldn't talk) or he does know and is intentionally lying to the audience (and therefore shouldn't talk).
He states that 15,000 grow ops are stealing electricity and that is the primary or at least contributing factor for why electricity charges are heading up. This sounds reasonable at first glance, but is total nonsense.
Lets assume that the 15,000 grow op number is correct and that none of them are paying for electricity. (though they should). If each operation has 5000 watts of power, then there is a total of 75 MegaWatts of electricity being stolen from the power grid. To those that know electricity, this is a large amount of power, roughly one sixth of a nuclear generating station's output. (certainly this should be paid for as it is theft.)
At an average of 15 hours of light per day, we get a total power theft of about 400,000,000 kWh of electricity per year. (at a power cost of 5 cents/kWh, this works out to about $20 million of electricity stolen per year)
The thing is that Canada consumes about 550 billion kWh of electricity per year. THus the stolen electricity represents about 400,000,000 / 550,000,000,000 = 0.07% of Canada's consumption.
Thus grow ops have increased the price of electricity in Canada by a maximum of 0.07%. this is not significant.
Keep these numbers in mind if you hear this bogus argument made in the future. It's just another flailing attempt by the control-people to keep pot illegal.
