George Putnam was an LA TV news man in the 50s and 60s famous for his anti-communist hysteria. He was a popular target of LA comedians, including The Firesign Theatre who mocked him on their radio shows. Maybe he was an FBI man before going on TV. It's odd that the FBI man in this story is so blatantly named - as if the comic was a series called The George Putnam Story or something. I don't know if he was famous outside LA.
Has the Pot TV crew seen Ron Mann's film Comic Book Confidential? It has some good ideas on bringing comics "to life" on the screen.
