VANCOUVER – An American woman who has claimed refugee status after fleeing drug conspiracy charges in the U.S. has been released from jail in Vancouver, just hours after she turned herself in on Friday.Renee Boje was ordered to surrender to authorities after the federal minister of justice denied her application to remain in Canada as a refugee.

Renee and I are grateful to Marc for the supportive statements that he made on behalf of Renee's case to the media as well as other means of support he has given to our family. But, unfortunately, Marc's suggestion, which aired on CBC Television, that Renee turn herself over to US authorities to strike a deal with them hurts Renee situation with Canadian public perception and it buys into Cotler's statements for rejecting Renee's refugee status. There are no deals in the US and Renee would go straight to federal prison as she is considered a fugitive by US authorities and would be deemed a "flight risk" and held till her trial and sentencing without bail. If Renee were ever returned to federal prison she would likely be a target for prison guard abuse and even rape. All media and human rights watch organizations are banned from US prisons so that no one can document what is occurring to these women. Renee is certain she would be the target of such abuse.

Plus, just based upon my past cannabis activism, even with no criminal record I would not be able to go to the USA, and Renee, if and when she were to get out of prison, would not be able to come to Canada.
The only deal is this, marijuana is a beautiful healing plant and my wife is a beautiful healing spirit who is staying here in Canada with her husband and son. That is the deal. John Conroy has already made it clear that a the US is not to be trusted with any "deals" and would mean serious jail time for Renee. He has had bad experiences trying to work things out with the US with previous clients. US prisons are brutal and the Abu Garib (sic) guards learned their brutal ways in civilian prisons back home.
