transplanting to 4"cubes ? [Post#: 104802 ]

My 3 of my 6 seedlings are almost tall enough to touch the dome on the heated germ tray (dome required due low RH-20%,temp=65* ) I've added a space heater and humidifier . this seems to have solved my problem. I plan on moving them into 4" RW cubes later today. Is this too soon ? 4 of the 6 have nicely developed 1st set of leaves but no roots coming out of the 1.5" cubes yet.Any thing special I need to do,ie:fill in any gaps, etc.? Right now I'm weening them off the dome now that I got RH up above 40% and temps at 75*under flos.I've had the 4"RW presoaking since last night(PH 4.0 distilled)took new reading of water today,up near 6.0...had a mild case of over fert a few days ago,I've been flushing them since, and have a very mild fert in my presoak...Will I be OK as is or do I need to change anything 1st ? ....PEACE.....

Hey Hydro..Go for it..Just as when ever you first do something monitor the situation closely at first.I think you will be ok.You can always go to hardware store and buy some plastic and make a dome type configuration around your flours.Doesn't need to be completely sealed.Just drape some over your lights and plants until they get a little bigger...IMHO..PEACE..

I never thought of that.! thanks for the tip,I'll try that if I feel a dome is still needed.I may even have some laying around,If I can find it. ...PEACE....PS.do you think it's too early to introduce em to the hydro drip ? if not what kind if watering schedule would be best for the young'uns.?

drip set up,to 6, 5gal pails.I have 2 2gph emitters going to each site.Draining back to 28 gal res,w/heater & air stone.(Rio#600 pump). 400w HPS balast w/hortilux and MH conversion bulbs.Sunlight supply maxumizer reflector. what do you think,too early yet.Not much of a root system,nothing showing anyway. RH=45-50%,temp=75-80* ... let me know what you think....gotta go watch,"that 70's show"...PEACE.

After further review...I don't think I can keep the flos close enough if I put them in the pails. I'd have to switch over to the 400w MH to cover the minimum area I could compact the pails into. Anyway I think it's too soon for the MH without a good root base estabilished yet.Another set or two of leaves then they should be ok.Or maybe this weekend when I can monitor their progress all day will work.I hope they're puttin out roots cause the growth above ground is real slow.I got them all in the 4" cubes now,on heated germ tray without dome...after 3 hrs they're doing ok... ...PEACE....

I also have a drip system. Quantum by Hydrofarm. And a 400 watt Hortilux with 6 plants.
I would wait a bit longer. you can put them in the 4" cubes now, under the dome (raise it if you must) and start them on 450ppm nutrients. You should remove the hood for a few hours at a time, now, so they can get stronger. If they droop, put the dome back on for another day. Ater putting them under your MH light, go to 900ppm after a week or two, depending on their growth. I water about 5 minutes every 2 hours until they get about 8", then I do 10 minutes every 2 hours.
