Rockwool preparation for drip system

I am getting ready to fire up my drip system and am wondering what is the best way to prepare my rockwool?
Should I soak it in nutrient solution before packing into containers or put it in dry?
Should I shread it into smaller pieces or or large hunks?
Anyone have any experience they could share?

Make sure that if yo soak it in hydro solution the you are useing nutrients that are ph buffered. The ones that are buffered will automatically adjust the ph level to about 6.0, but not all brands are buffered. Check the label before doing this or you might just be wasting nute's and possibly doing damage to your plants.

Well since I have just finished putting two plants into their tubs and rw. I will explain how I do it. Some people may do it different, but I find this works well for me. I work my rw dry, yes it is nasty stuff but a simple respirator will keep the particles at bay. I cut my rw with a bread knife being careful not to compress or destroy the structure of the rw. Pack it in the tub dry going right to the edges, use the extra scrap to make sure there are no air gaps. In my system I use 2 layers to fill the tubs, the second layer is packed around the clone cube and the surface is covered with lava rock to keep the light off the rw. I fill my reservoir mix my nutes and drop the pH to about 5.5. Fire up the pump and soak the rw for a 10 minutes flood and then go to my regular feeding times. The pH will rise but it is simple to adjust back down. I usually check my pH twice a day for the first week since that is when I get most of my pH drift. Just my 2 cents
