If you're going to smoke with your kids, you should make sure that they are responsible enough to do it with you.
If not, you can cause considerable damage to your child.
Let's say you find your 12-year old son smoking pot. Yourself being a pot-smoker, ask him if he wants to toke with you. If your kid is not "grown-up" yet, (and he probably wont be at 12) then he might go to school and say something like "Hehehe, guess what man, my parents asked me if I wanted to smoke with them, isn't that cool?" This can get around, and get you in trouble.
It's not just the fact that YOU can get into trouble, it's the fact that your child can become a "pot-head", and he will grow up smoking pot, lazing around the house, etc. This is a negative aspect of pot. I'm not saying all stoners are lazy-ass low-lifes, I'm just saying that any pot-head can turn into one.
Before smoking with your kids, I would suggest that you talk woth them first: who knows, maybe they are Anti-marijuana supporters. Also, make sure that you teach your kids THE TRUTH about marijuana and other drugs, because you don't want a bunch of bullshit to be taught to your kids about the subject. (D.A.R.E, and V.I.P. are amont the many "we will scare your kids into not doing drugs")
Anyways, if you're gonna smoke with your kids, that's cool, and I'm sure that it will be great fun and you will get very close (A kid who can smoke pot in front of their parents is a kid who can tell their parents ANYTHING).
Fight the government, smoke pot!

As soon as a kid is old enogh to pass a joint , I think that they are old enough to smoke. Nuff said.

if they don't fully understand the concequences of their actions they shouldn't do it.

I hate to say it, but i agree on it being 18, if it were a legal substance for consuming. What age did you start drinking, if any? Did your parents hate it or just let it slide? I remember my dad telling me he would prefer that i was 18 to start imbalancing my already everchanging hormones, and i did, i don't know why; i just wasn't really wanting to try it, I was rasied around it all of my life, trust me i had plenty of chances to try some that looked like they were rolled in sugar, plants that just towered over my 7 year old head. I feel that like anything in life different people take things in different ways. A certain yearly "age" isn't the greatest way of determing when a certain person is ready to do anything. You have to also take into account a person's emotional and physiological age as well. I have met kids that are 15 that can handle an adult level conversation, smoke pot and learn something from me, as well as myself learning something from them. Then there are kids that cannot definetly handle any amount of any type of chemical, and that goes for sugar as well. It is kinda sad that kids are forced to sneek behind their parents' back. Go to a place that could put them into potential harm and then have to do it in a less then safe place compared to them doing it in the privacy of their own home. All the while, mom and dad are out imbalancing themselves with their choice of intoxicant. Especially if it gives them a "gateway" to their kids, some way to open themselves and express themselves truthfully. I think that 12 is really to young, maybe 14, if the kid really understands what they are doing and why they do it, at the 17 to 18 years of age people are pretty much self defined into what they will do, and more stable in respects to taking mind altering substances. I also have to add that there are people that are well over the age of 18 that shouldn't be allowed to take anything as well. Like I wrote earlier, just because some one is 28, doesn't neccesarily make them 28 in all aspects.

okay, apply this logic to this scenario
as soon as a kid is old enough to hold a gun, they are old enough to hunt
as soon as a kid is old enough to touch the pedals and see over the steering wheel, they can drive
as soon as a kid is old enough to say "I do", they can marry.
I know that last one is stretching it, but so does a kid passing a joint, i have seen kids in rooms they have no buisness in and can only think of how sad it is that some people have no parenting skills have kids.

when i was a teen i never liked smoking , i was drinker .oh how i wish things would have been the opposite..i believe 18 is an appropiate age but it may also depend on the maturity of the child .i myself have 2 sons 14 and 10 and when the time is right they will know the truth about alcholol and marijuana....and the good and bad about both ..my only hope is that they decide to be smokers of the green and not get lured into drinking ..

think about if no one smoked pot before they were 18. It would be quite a few more years before they start consider growing.Learning to avoid getting caught by your parents and/or school administration trains you for being an adult pot smoker so you don't get caught by the police. Also the years befroe eighteen are reserved for things like learning how to roll joints, failed pot growing ventures with your stoner buddies and the opportunity to be sill open to new ideas. When your in highschool you leave this sheltered cocoon and start opening up to a whole world. Smoking weed really helps young people make friends and new people. If it wasn't for weed smoking I wouldn't of gotten laid the first few times. Not because the girls were high but because marijuana allows you to open up to people and feel more comfortable around them. Regardless of what the commercials say, the popular kids in highschool smoke weed, the people that don't or who chose not to associate with them are missing out on a whole other world

not true.
i am quietest when i have been smoking.
not because i am ashamed of myself but because i am just an introverted kind of person.
when i have been smoking i just sit with some friends and thinking and let them talk if they want to.
nothing you can say about the effects of marijuana are absolute.
there are commonalities but that is even a stretch
