"Bad Trips" and Richard Davis

I was listening to a documentary on Ideas (CBC Radio 1, 9PM M - F) about Richard Davis, who is a Canadian Anthro-botonist who has travelled to all sorts of neat places. His perspective of "Bad Trips" is that it is a matter of context. If you take acid (or any other hallucinogen), it is not meant to be "fun". You are, in effect, talking to God, and if it is treated as such "Bad Trips" don't exist, only lessons.
I just thought I'd throw this out in the open, because people have been talking about good/bad trips recently. Any comments/discussion would be great, because I'm curious about this myself.

A "Bad Trip" isn't really a "Bad Trip", it is just labeled as such. When people take certain drugs, they are wanting to have good fun, as you stated...if they don't have good fun, this is why they label the trip they had a Bad Trip. I hope that made sense, little inhebriated atm.

I think a lot of bad trips come about because of anxiety attacks. I know my only bad trip was caused by eating mush for 3 days straight and my body just plain telling me 'no'. It got me all sick and feverish for a few hours, and at one point I passed out from lightheadedness (Waking up afterward had to be one of the most fucked up experiences of my life. I was totally paniced and had no clue who/where/what I was, and I had no idea there was a physical body attatched to my conciousness). Anyway, enough about my bad trip. I'd probably say that a typical experience like mine probably goes something like this:
You just ate a bunch of acid or shrooms, and you're sittin there chillin, trippin, having a grand old time. Next thing you know you're disoriented and confused. Your heart beats a little faster, you breathe a little deeper, you're not quite sure what's going on. You start to notice your increased heart rate and breathing, and you start to think something's wrong. Mind you, you're on acid, so any of the billion bad possibilities that could have happened shoot through your mind in a second . . . what if it was bad acid, what if you munched too many shrooms. . . what if you never come out of the trip. Within a few seconds you're sweating bullets and are completely lost in fear. Any number of things could happen from this point on. If you were at a wild party the confusion and fear might make leave the party and run aimlessly through the city(like a friend of mine did). You could also start hyperventilating and pass out(like I did). Whatever happens, it's usually not pleasant, which explains why it would be noted at a "bad" trip.
Peace
