What is marriage?

What does marriage mean to you?
Do you think it is a ceremonial acknowledgment, a romantic moment, a social requirement...
What kind of ceremonies do cannabis lovers (and lovers of cannabis) prefer and why do they chose to wed?
May the forest be with you...

(What I think:) a ceremonial acknowledgment--maybe a romantic moment--hopefully a social requirement--no
I have never been married... My parents have been divorced since 1978, back together in 1985, and split again, within a few years. My sister is married now, for the second time. Divorce is something that I never want to try...
Ceremonies... well--I've truely never enjoyed being the center of attention. (I even cried at my 4th birtday party when they were singing "Happy Birthday" to me ...) So (the thought of) my own wedding has never been as important to me, as most females...
I think the most important thing would be that my fiance and I are 'in-tune' with each other. The less guests, the better! A romantic moment - more meaningful to the two of us, than a multi-hundred dollar gown and a church full of flowers and people.
Reception... that's the good part! Catch a little zzub, do a little shakin' the of the boodie, add a little bit-o good food, and a fair amount of alcohol- Now that's my thought of a good time!
BTW--I'm new here... HIGH to you all!
"Woah-oh... What I want to know... Where does the time go?"

I think it involves all three of those...my "wife" and I's marriage consisted of acknowledging each other's love, committment and wishes for the future. the unity thing was present before that in a big way, but it took a conscious acknowledgement of our intentions to spend the rest of our lives together, along with a spliff..:) to finalize...:)
May I ask, why do you ask bliss? If you are considering marriage, make sure it's for yourselves and not your parents or anyone else....like Bearz said, the huge catholic weddings suck and are more for your parents' sake...we've turned down our parents' requests for a "real"wedding more times than I can count...lol
Hi to you too Bearz! I know how you feel about being the centre of attention...
All the best, *virtual tokes*

Well I've only been married a year, but have been with my squeeze for seven years. She truly brings out the best in me and gives me the perspective my subjective side likes to ignore. So, I think that marriage is whatever you make it to be, but for us it is about acknowledgment.
Its definitely not a social requirement, we lived in sin for six years...hehe
It was definitely a romantic moment, if it were not we would not be married. And if anyone says it isn't THEY shouldn't be married.
Marriage has a great deal to do with giving up a little of your individuality and working as a team. At least for us because we're both control freaks. I guess for some it may be the opposite, two people who are insecure, finding security in each other. I duhno?
Are you thinking of marriage? Or does this has something to do with Mamakind getting married, is your clock tickin'?
As I am a lightweight herbalist, whereas my wife is a full time employee of the ganja factory, she chose the senerio of the ceremony. We got married on a thursday afternoon, at an Episcopal(sp) church. Had the reception at her dad's house. My family is catholic, but they didn't mind. If they did, oh well. It was very casual. The reception was sort of a cocktail party, h'ordeavres(sp), drinks, lots of chairs, no tables except for the drinks and food. Being stoners we know what a pain in the ass socializing is when you don't know anyone, sitting at a wedding table just because your in a certain profession. Blah, blah, blah... Everyone had a great time.
Then we went to Benelux for our honeymoon. Now that is a must for every stoner couple! Ohhhhhhh.....the memories.... Amsterdam, Maastrict, Brugge, Brussels, Luxemburg......great times, great times.....Northern Lights, Bubble Gum, White Widow, Pollen Hash......Frites...ohhhhhhh.....Marriage is heaven!

It's a social convenience and mutual exploitation. Women get married so they can have children and have someone make sure that the offsprings and themselves are cared for. Men get married to pass on their genes and to be taken care of by surrogate mother. Both use marriage to get laid on a regular basis and to complete the emptiness of their pathetic lives. It start with a hormonal reflex and finishes with resentment or blind acceptance.
Yes I've been married for 25 years.

1) a good excuse for a party where everybody gets drunk. 2) a good excuse for a trip (called a honeymoon) 3) a good excuse for sticking together (look, honey wouldn't it be easyer to make up than get divorced?)
Do you need more than that?
My Dad said that life was a choice between being lonely all the time or fighting all the time....
....that may be true. So pick someone who shares your dreams, your dietary and sleeping and sex habits, your fiscal, political and emotional needs, and someone who you can fight gentily and kindly with.....and FUCK LONELYNESS - that's what I say, anyway.
I once had a trial marriage with a crazy U.S.A. chick.......it was fun, but it didn't last. Now I'm living in sin, but I might get re-married - just for the party and the trip.

I can see the benefits of a committed relationship (and the drawbacks), and the benefits of the excuse to party and go on a trip... however, isn't it just a contract by the state and church? I have no allegiance to either, and hence question the legitimacy of such a venture.
May the forest be with you...

...a contract between the state and church...good one
Well erase the materialistic aspects and lets see what we have left. Two people combining their energies to produce, hopefully, a positive relationship, which brings up the moral average of a world that seems to dislike all that is beautiful. We rape, pillage and destroy most things we come into contact with. One of our only redeeming factors is that we are able to create love, sometimes. From the point when two people are married they, and all their acquaintances accept that they are now one(except the IRS, where you can still file separately).
My point is...we are selfish creatures, and marriage is a way to sort of justify our existence through a selfless act of eternal commitment.
Just a side note...Did you know that most stars form in bianary systems? They osillate their energies between each other. Although the usual end result of this coupling is that one of the stars absorbs too much of the others mass and neutron degeneracy occurs. Which means either a neutron star, pulsar or the dreaded back hole. Kinda like most of Donald Trumps ended marriages.
