A ceremonial acknowledgment - yes[/yes]
A romantic moment - yes
A social requirement - no[/yes]
At least here in Canada, married people are discriminated against by the government. Married people pay higher taxes, are unable to qualify for benefits and financial support from the government that are available to single people - and well, I could go on and on and on... The discrimination against married persons is why I think it's so damn unpopular to get - or stay - married these days. Why get married when there is no incentive? Why stay married when all the forces in the government are allied against you? It is almost like the government punishes people for getting officially married...
What kind of ceremonies do cannabis lovers (and lovers of cannabis) prefer and why do they chose to wed?
I can't speak for anyone else, but personally we got married on the by a justice of the peace, almost a year ago. My husband is primarily Wiccan, and I am primarily Taoist. We considered hand-fasting (a Wiccan ceremony legally recognized in Canada and in parts of the USA), but since my family is very traditionally Catholic, and his family is very traditionally Protestant, we figured that wouldn't go over so well... LOL Even if we could have been able to afford a bigger wedding, we wouldn't have wanted it. Why blow thousands of $$$ on a wedding when you can instead save that cash and put it towards your future together?

i think i'm outnumbered, but marriage is like a truck on my back, i'm sick of women wanting to marry me(ok just 3 over the years) if i'm with someone, i'm with them fully, i don't need the church or a ring or a piece of paper to prove my love to my lady.I'll be there for all my friends in times of need and i won't marry them either.Follow the way. peace

I feel marriage is also (and maybe more so) an emotion bonding. Within the marriage there is emotional safety, and intimacy that cannot be afforded by any type of living together experience. For us, there is a truer since of partnering and involvement than there was when we were living together.
Be good to each other and treat each other well!

No, no one needs a ring, piece of paper, or church to prove love. In our society, it s not needed at all. You can live common law and reap all the benefits without the ceremony. You can have kids out of wed lock and no one really looks down on you, except for a few Catholic grand-ma's.
My point is this. Because it is no longer a must for couples to get married in order to have sex, live together, have kids etc. I feel it almost means more. It is a decison made strictly by the two people getting hitched.
Having said that, it is entirely up to the individual. A "common-law" relationship is no less "real" than a marriage.

if i ever got married, i would make it a really spiritual hippy kinda wedding, out in a field, wearing like a sundress and have flowers in my hair, with just me and the very attractive, intelligent, funny man and the preist and my dad, because he is a cool dad, but afterwords i'd have a big ass reception get wasted and be on a plane to jamaca where me and the man of my dreams would be naked and smoke pot on the beach and confess our deep love to each other... but irresponsible people....
dont fuck up some other people, dont have kids... because. who cares if you get divorced, big deal, but if you have kids, your gonna seriously fuck them up, we dont need anymore school shootings... so if you dont really love em' put an condom on...
