Will Male leaves work? [Post#: 63393 / re: 62875 ]

Instead of tossing my male plants, can I use the leaves for cooking, or is the amount of THC in them so small that it won't get me high?

In most everything I've read, males parallell and often exceed THc content of females, until flowering begins.

the problem with male is 1)they make up a very small percent of the harvest, 2)in this age of indoor growing you want to get maximum yield out of as little space as possible, since males produce little, they are basically just taking up room, 3) males make the females produce seeds, and thats no fun, 4) a males balls are a harsh smoke, same with leaf, of course this makes no difference when baking but since more often people smoke cannabis, you will hear lots of this "anti-male" talk.

Hi guys...

A couple of things.

First of all, AesoP is correct that male plants can have more THC while in the vegetative stage, but it is such a minute percentage, that it isn't even worth considering a comparison.

The leaf material off of a female plant will be quite potent at harvest time, plus you will also have high-quality bud. Growing out your males just for eating is not effective and is a waste of time.
And many other factors come into play in this circumstance; i.e. strains, growing method, etc. So it isn't always necessarily the case.

What you really want to do if you're objective is to get high; get rid of your males as soon as they show their sex, harvest your females. Smoke the bud and eat the trimmings.

Keep in mind too that it isn't the leaf that has THC, it is the crystals which form on the flowers and leaves which contain this mind altering substance.

It's all good.

Happy "baking"

I've been smoking nothing but male leaf for weeks, and not doing too badly, though I wish I had more. I think using males for cooking would be a great idea. Probably cheaper if you're buying from a growers, maybe free if you are friends with one. and what else is there to do with the males once they show sex? The smoke is harsher, so eating would be the way to go, if I had more, and weren't so eager to see my pipe change colors.

YES!! YES!! Yes!! When I "seek out and destroy" those dudes hangin' out in my garden with my ladies, I cut (not pull up) the stem. Then, I dismember the lil' guy until he's just 1 main stem with a lot of side stems. Then, I take the tips and tip leaves and balls of each branch and side stems. I throw these into a shoe box and allow to cure and dry, then powderize them through a strainer and use for cooking. Males can make a wonderful brownie mix, even as powerful or more so than females.

Good luck.
