Three different threads trashing High Times, and their biggest defender so far is Dana!!!!

Actually Dana is not defending them, if I understand him right, he is just trying to keep the level of this discussion above swearing and name calling.

Cool with me. But this discussion could use some feedback. Were are all those oh-so-sophisticated New York leftists that HT suckles up to? Can anyone out there give any intelligent reason for defending HT, or claiming HT is better than CC??????

Can not think of any myself. CC RULES!! But I am willing to listen.

Anyone????

The only thing 'cool' I have ever liked about HT is there center fold things. I had alot of them, and still do, hanging all over the place. That is about all I can find good, except maybe the occasional grow article may spread some small light on some issues (what can I say, they taught me how to prune..), but then again what marijuana growing site cant do that?

I fully agree with DankNugget, and that's being mild...
I am glad that this new thread is here, because I think people should be able to give critics on things that they don't like.
As we are on the subject, I want to shoot some shit at the Dutch Cannabis Magazines, and I think I know.

Both owners of Highlife and Essensie magazine are non smokers, how about that?

After I was told to kill my joint in Essensie's office, while paying cash for an ad, I refused to handshake with Wim, the publisher and owner, from that day I have not been there nor in their magazine.

I don't blame them, I am all marihuana, Essensie is polluted with all possible harddrugs anyway, I don't want to mix with that.
Their frontpage has not shown weed for a year!

My opinion: Essensie stinks, and it ain't after weed....

Highlife is another story, I have clashed with Boy, the owner, on several occasions, we just don't like eachother, that's clear,

They also leeched our dopedeal webcam from www.wwwshop.nl
put in their site and made us pay for the data transfer.

My opinion: Highlife is not so high...

That's why I contacted CC mag to help me promote the Cannaquiz, it's an all marihuana magazine!!

That's all.

you don't have to be a wizz to win the Cannaquiz!

Ask Ed was the best artical they ever came up with, and then they screwed him!
High times is the comic book of cannibis mags, but not really even funny!
Sad ,Sad, Sad...I think Tom Forcade could see what was going to happen to his dream, and thats why he put a bullet in his head.
High times does absolutly nothing for the M.J. cause.

HIGH TIMES REEKS new [Post#: 93940 / re: 93938 ]

What High Times is and does is notjust a problem of what type of magazine you like, like Newsweek verses Time, for example. It is that High Times is one reason marijuna is still illegal, both in how they have portrayd smokers (as dumbass juvenile delinquents) and in hidden things theyhave done to cooperate with police and to hurt people who are trying to legalize.

One reasonthey don't want to legalize is because they are part of a consortium of mafia/commercial growers who totally love black market prices. Another reason is that if legalizing happens, they can't so easy sell dangerous fake bud shit to kids. They do that totally for money. They admit that. They know its bogus but they dont care.

Someof the people who are not ontheir staff ar ok people, and i have met them and they tell me about how they wait for several months or years to get paid and that Steve Bloom and Steve Hager and Malcum Mackinnen especially are just themost conceited untrustable people in the world, which Ihave also experienced as a concert promoter. These guys will screw you and thenlaugh about it. Ask Bill Conde in Oregon, he'll tell you straight up what theyre all about.

Wheni have met two of the other ones, goreman and latimer, they have always been drunk. Goreman bragged in one issue about how he sells booze in South America and sits drinking with DEAagents and tells them how to stop coca farmers and exporters. Hes a narc. Latimer is a bitter old has-been who opposes medicalmarijuana and isnt a stoner at all. He's on the sauce.

Their youngerstaffmembers are a joke too ,PotStar, well the name says it all right, and chris semenintheneck, read his marilynmanson article alone and you can see why everybody hates this pompous little rooster. Kushman is ok, except that he works for High Times. Cervantes is a sellout ho who lies about emery seeds even though if it wasnt for CC where would his lame ass be?

It just goes on and on. They are a greedy corporationthat the WTO would be proud of, they are all about money, and they are openly tryingto ruin Marcemery, they are the ones who are in with the spammers who lie about emery on the forums and they told me that if i havea concert i cant have pete brady there as a speaker and can't advertise in CC. They tell other people this as well. I told them to go F themselves. They said without us your concert won't get any business, well they were wrong so that's that. I don't need High Times at all. Nobody does!!!

I have some closing suggestions cuz I gotta go:

Have Hager or any of them go on pot-tv to debate emery or brady and let the truth come out.

Dana, please stop defending High Times. Your job as a rival and as somebody who wants to clean the movement should be to expose them. Dont close threads where the culture is telling what it needs to tell about High Times.

High Times, stop being assholes and greedy morons. Then you can have the same good feelingabout you that CC has about it and people will like you getter. Right now, you are despised.

Everybody subscribe to CC and go to the magazine stores with a copy of it and say, hey, carry this magazine instead of High Times.

Heads magazine is an HT front run by HT staffers and it sux too, also not paying its workers and is a copy of Mountain Freak and CC. F Heads!

Stay away from pigs in badges and those people like High Times who smoke pot but are all about money and dumbassness.

To all who fight to free the weed, I salute you!

Gethealthy: What was the story with Ed Rosenthal's split with HT? Do not remember reading WHY the split happened in CC and I KNOW HT did not cover it. Ask Ed was 50% of the reason I subscribed to HT for several years.

Activist1: How did HT screw Bill Conde? I was there at the WEE1 in Eugene, at WEE3 in Columbus, OH, and the two last Hempfests held by CC and Conde in Eugene, OR.

WEE3 was right after Woodstock 2000, so they had some bigger name bands, but the last two Hempfests at Conde's totally, and I mean totally kicked ass over WEE3. More and nicer people, more and better vendors, and so on. Really broke my heart to hear Bill Conde say he could not take the heat anymore and was selling the land and leaving the country.

I e-mailed HT before the last Hempfest and asked how come they did not list Hempfest in their events calender. Got a reply back saying the reason was, "Nobody told us about it"

A yearly festival, on the same land, by the same people that held their WEE1, and they don't know anything about it. Could not believe they thought i would buy such a shallow lie. No reply at all would have been better.

Heard talk at the last Hempfest that some other people take it up and hold it somewhere else nearby in Oregon. Does anybody have any info on this? If there is another Hempfest, I got to be there.

Still no HT defenders? What is the matter guys? Too ashamed to write?

Re: HIGH TIMES REEKS new [Post#: 94157 / re: 94122 ]

If you guys are so smart, why don't you make your own magazine, and quit bitchin' like a bunch of little girls... I love C.C. but I also like my vintage issues of High Times(80's and early 90's). I don't think you guys should be bashing like that, especially on here, what's the point ?? The guys at High Times will never see this, and even if they did I bet they don't give a damn what you say about them.... I guess this is an old, old subject for me, because I was hip to their subversive tactics 8 years ago when me and my best friend got into a fist fight over an article, I split his head and I went to jail, for a few days. Oh, and he was defending High Times.... They used to say the internet was "Big Brother" lol.... That wasn't what the argument was all about but it was part of it... It really bums me out to come on here and read bash post after bash post......

Here's an interesting article from Salon.com, July 2000. It covers CC, HT and Heads, and the competition between us. It's quite a good article, weel worth a read to anyone interested in the conflicts between all of our magazines.

http://www.salon.com/business/feature/2000/07/19/dope/index.html

Here's an excerpt:

"Steve Hager did not mince words while dismissing the accusations made by his antagonists. Calling Cannabis Culture a "seed catalogue with aspirations of being a magazine," Hager wrote "We deny the allegations and despise the alligators," and, referring to Cannabis Culture, added: "They want to hitch their wagon to our star. What little they know about marijuana they learned from us. Their need for publicity causes them to say anything to get attention."
