Two More Victims [Post#: 119864 ]

Veronica Bowers was described as a "perfect mother", a Peruvian missionary who was holding her newly adopted infant daughter on her lap when bullets ripped through their airplane. The thirty-five year old and her daughter, Charity, died in the Friday attack. Officials said that the attack was launched by Peruvian air force jets whose pilots mistook the missionaries for drug dealers.

The missionary plane was being tracked by a U.S. surveillance plane before it was downed. The U.S. tracking plane was taking part in a long standing U.S.-Peru project when it notified Peruvians that the missionaries' plane was operating without a flight plan in airspace frequented by drug runners. Peru, which had the responsibility to identify the plane's intentions, decided that it was carrying drugs.

I guess this qualifies according to some as collateral damage. When will we learn?

she was only DESCRIBED as a perfect mother...
You're right, no one's perfect. But don't freak
out when you see someone being called perfect.
This was yet another tragedy of the war on drugs,
and the lady killed was considered a good mother.
Today, the word perfect is mis-used, as in this case,
and I hope that you can see that.

Relax? Innocent people are killed doing missionary work, innocent people are being shot dead in their homes during 3:00 am Gestopo raids, growers getting more jail time than murderers, medical patients are being told,

"If you suffer and die, that is okay, but you can not have any doctor perscribed pot, because THAT will send a wrong message to kids."

When government officials and police can kill innocent people without punishment or reprimand, because they MIGHT have had DRUGS, if you can not get upset over THAT, then your brainwashing is complete, there is no hope for you.

Hope for the future lives only in people that still care.

I wasn't talking about relaxing over the problems with today's War on Drugs, I was telling him to relax about the "perfect" issue. He's getting so pissed off at me and others because someone used the word "perfect" to describe the lady...
I understand all you're saying, Puresativa, and I agree with all of it.

Okay, cool shiznitz. Thanks for stating yourself more clearly.

Headfog can only speak for himself. I will try to clearly describe what I think his point about the 'perfect' issue.

We are all humans. By being humans, we have certain unalienable rights, human rights, according to the creators of the US Constituation and founders of the US government.

All people have these rights. ALL. From the poorest to the richest. All cultures, all colors.

That is the ideal. Sadly in reality, sometimes our prejudices, ignorance and fear overpower our fine ideals.

Such is the case with the War on Drugs. The root of the War on Drugs and all laws against pot were created to racially harass and control minorities of Mexican and African decent. That is documented fact.

The way it was sold to the average citizen was by Randolf Hearst making up horror stories of normal people turned axe swinging mass murderers after smoking pot. The laws were needed to protect the 'good' people from the 'low-life, scumbag, degenerate, insane pot smokers'.

It was all lies, of course. But it worked then, and still is working now. Government, media, political correctness all like to divide people into the 'Good' people who we should care about, and the 'Bad' people we should not care about.

The worst example I have seen lately was Waco. I can not you how many times I have heard people that think of themselves as liberal, caring, and tolerant tell me "Why should I care if they died, they were just a bunch of religous kooks."

From the other side, I have heard many people that concider themselves compassionate Christans tell me, "Why should I care if some DRUGGY gets killed during a SWAT raid?"

DRUGGY, RELIGOUS KOOK, COMMIE PINKO, RIGHT WING EXTREMIST, These are all labels used by people to justify hatred and violating the rights of fellow humans.

We are humans, not labels. For us to have any hope of living peacefully together in this ever shrinking world, we need to forget the labels and deal with each other as equals.

Under the original intent of the Constitution, every person had the right do follow any path they pleased. The only, truely only justification for imprisoning or denieing a person their rights was if they caused harm, or threatened to cause harm to another person. Period.

Remember: Humans and human rights, not labels.

A British diplomat whose name I can't remember at the moment described diplomacy as:

"The art of saying "Nice doggy" while looking for a rock."

"Life is a tragedy for those who feel
and a comedy for those who think."
