Help! Leaves turning brown & drying up!

I have the following plants in vegetative cylce under 1000 watt halides: Kali mist (Western winds),
burmese, dutch treat, durban poison, blueberry and northern lights #5 X HAZE.
All EXCEPT the northern lights are steadily, leaf-by-leaf, turning a brownish-yellow color, and drying up.
When the solar leaves dry up, new young leaves begin to emerge close to stems. I have tried
EVERYTHING I can think of to stop this from happening. I backed way off on fertilizer, raised the lights
higher, and then moved some of the plants under 400 watt halide which is set up in a corner of the
same room - they seem do be doing somewhat better.
But this is the mysterious part: The Northern Lights #5 X HAZE (sensi seeds) is thriving like there's no
tomorrow!! What on earth is going on here? I have LOTS of fresh air coming in and going out, BUT I
have had electric heat on to maintain approx. 78 degree temperature. I also give them all a healthy
dose of C02 daily by turning on my propane burner.
Could it be that the more expensive seeds (NL #5 x HAZE from Sensi seeds) are just tougher than the
other strains which are much less expensive? This can't be it, though. Perhaps the NL, which is more indica based is more tolerant than the others which are more sativa based.????
My soil is carefully prepared so I don't think it's that. I'm growing organically with definitely not too
much fertilizer.
Could it be the 1000 watt halide is just too much for most of them? All that I can think of to do now is
replace the 1000 watt with another 400 halide as main vegetative light - and flowering light, too, if this is
the problem.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks.

How old the plants,how close is "raised the lights"?How close were the lights?A little more info...IMHO..PEACE.

originally the 1000 watt was 3 feet away. the plants that are drying up are mostly about 3 weeks old and 12-14 inches high. The burmese is a little smaller than that. I moved the 1000 watt all the way to ceiling which puts it about 4 1/2 feet away from tops of plants. I also moved the drying plants around the edges of the light now and not near the center.
but this part is a real mystery too: I have two new clones from the NL#5xHAZE (Sensi), each about 1 or 2 inches high directly under the 1000 light with all these other plants when the light was 3 feet away and THEY ARE DOING GREAT!! Yet the slightly taller burmese (5 inches) are burning.
I was thinking that the NL#5xHAZE is more indica based than the others and perhaps the other sativa based ones don't fair as well indoors - or the NL#5xHAZE from sensi may just be more vigorous and can withstand more intensity.
What do you think?

Hey Wishwood.3 week old seedlings under a 1000watter.Quite young yet some people do it.You would definitely have to introduce them to the big lights carefully.Myself I would have waited until they were 6-8 weeks old with 6-8 sets of leaves and topped them.If they were taller you could still top them to desired height.Clones I find adapt quicker although they still do need the lights at about 2.5-3 ft away gradually lowering a couple of inches everyday.Now you mentioned lots of fresh air going in and out but no mention of a fan blowing across plants.An oscillating fan blowing across the tops at all times is highly reccomended,I would say a must.If you didn't have one that's a definite cause to your problems.When you start to lower your lights,do it gradually and only a couple inches a day and a fan on them!..IMHO..PEACE..

Not exactly sure what your problem is however, NL#5 is a very hardly plant. Typically recommended to beginners due to its resillisancy and tendancy to thrive in different conditions. Your growing a lot of different strains, each strain came originally from a different part of the world and I have found that what is good for one is not always ideal for another.

Thanks SanFran, I appreciate the input. I didn't know that about NL#5xHAZE - I thought I had read on one of Marc Emery's posts somewhere or othere that this particular strain was "unreliable" (this was after I had been growing it for awhile) - but, hey, it's weathered some pretty tough storms, so you are probably right. Peace.
