NL#5 seedling-RED STEM ?

The 1st seedling to sprout now has a redish stem and the leaves are slightly curled under kind of like a lily blossom,it is a NL#5.others don't(yet) show any signs of this.Started germ on 3/3,this one came up on 3/5. Using distilled H2O,with 10 drops superthrive & 1/8th tsp fish emulsion per gal..under 80w flors. temp=60* RH=35% in grow area.I am using a dome w/2 penny size holes cut for vents (due to low RH)on heated germ tray...temp inside about 80*. also have one "sprout"that is just a firm arched stem going up and back into RW.I put the seeds into RW w/root tip up as per Marc's instruction sheet,maybe this one was too shallow.Should I help this one by carefully scraping away RW from original planting site ? Thanks for any help/advise you can give... PEACE...

Don't worry too much. I've only ever grown NL#5 and they always seem to have red stems. Maybe we're both doing something wrong but mine always turn out just fine.
Cats like the chronic too!!

Hey Hydro..Always put root tip pointing down.Are you sure you read right??I think because you put the tip up,this arch you are talking about is the root growing out of rockwool,turning itself around and back into the rockwool.Don't disturb it now.It should pop through providing you don't have it packed too tight.As far as red stems,I've had lots come up with a reddish color to the stem.This usually disappears as the seedling matures.When it's time to remove the dome,do it for short periods,sort of a hardening off.Once sprouts are up watch you don't keep things too wet,warm and humid.Could lead to damping off.Let rockwool dry out some.Don't let it go bonedry though.Removing the dome for short periods will help along with the holes you've made for vent.IMHO..PEACE..

Hi,Overdrive.thanks again for the help.I've got the instruction sheets right here..Quote:"Plant the seed with the root tip up.The root tip will reverse and grow down into the medium and push the seedling up through the surface.":end quote. Maybe this is to make the root stronger,a work out if you will.Anyway I've already fixed the problem(it had been like that for 24hrs).I sterilized a jewlers screwdriver and carefully scraped away the RW from original hole,expected to find seed husk.tryed to ease it out only to find main root with hairs intact.under that I saw bright green!!! The seedling had grown directly under the root.I scraped away the RW from the other end freeing the entire plant.I enlarged the hole (width and depth) so I could replant the root without damaging the fine hairs.I then gently scraped in and lightly repacked the RW around it.The whole thing looked like a curly fry,had to prop its head up on a grow rock.Just got home from work and I'm happy to say it's doing fine.7 of 12 up so far,all nice and healthy looking.Thanks for the tips on the dome thing, can't get that type of service from a growers guide book.I read this online so called "guide" last night and found myself laughing at most of the guys'directions,he must of been stoned when he wrote it.Either that or he's a fed writing like a stoner and giving out Really BAD info.I'll go back there so I can post a warning for all the newbies here.Thanks again...PEACE...

Bummer,spent the last hour or so trying to find that BAD grow guide to no avail...must of deleated it.Any way if anyone comes accross some stoner telling you to "keep your flos 18"above seedlings",talking about "good dope",and other assorted rambelings...read it just for a good laugh,and come back to this forum. I thought it was from a link at either HighTimes,or Highsociety,but couldn't find it...Maybe just as well...PEACE...

Red stalk is usually associated with stress to the plant , it's like an artery filling up and becoming hard. Give em a good water & B1 feeding.

Red stems on seedlings are a result of high PH usually....Plant the seed with the tip down. Marc is incorrect or it is a misprint. They will grow in spite of that treatment, not because of it....Ditch the superthrive at this early stage. It's a hormone and they do not need it. It's like giving steroids to a baby.

Attached is a picture of what I was calling a 'red stem'. Its more like little red hairs on the stem than anything else. Is this what you describe?
