Effects of Cold on Flowering?

I have some plants in a wicking/aeroponic setup under 400 W HPS for 40 days. It gets cold when the lights are off, generally in the lower 50's, a few times to the mid 30's. My plants appear healthy to the eye and are flowering just fine, I hope; but they are about 10-14 days behind last time (via comparison with pictures). So, can I expect things to move along pretty much the same but at a slower pace, or should I expect a more significantly diminished harvest?

Hey JWD..Low 50's pushing it,30's not good.Try to get some heat in there.My lows are usually 60-65 during lights out with no adverse side effects.It will slow your grow,probably end up with a lower yeild.Try to get those lights off temps up...IMHO..PEACE..

ya get some heat in there. they might finish up before there time thinking winter is comming.

i grow year round in my basement and after 2 years ive finally realized why my crops take 2 weeks longer in the winter than in the summer .....lights off temps get down in the low 50s .......this has to be what it is. same seeds always,,,, same grow methods ..come to think of it there doesnt seem to be much of a difference in yeild..but on some plants not all, bud density seems to be affected..i find the slow down seems to occur early on in the flowering stage ie. seems to take forever for the plants to first start to grow buds......thus the 2 week longer flowering time.....i have since added more heat to my room and now the lights off temp is around 69 much more acceptable.....and after 9 days of 12/12 i can notice a big difference already......anyone else experiencing anything like this?

yeah I'm a month into flowering and my buds are looking a week maybe two weeks old. This is my first grow in winter and I didn't think about heat problems until I went 12/12. The temps get to low 50's, I was hoping for spring but its still cold here in ohio. I hope it doesn't effect yield too much since I'm growing bag seed and probably won't get a terrific yield anyway. I'm not going to spend money on something to heat my room though because summer is around the corner and I need to invest in better ventilation devices. Temps get into 90's in summer. Also need to get some good seed.

I drop the temps to the high fifties with hard to finish strains that may need a few more cues. Magnesium and a few other things get locked out when it's below fifty. I've never heard of a thirty degree reading though. I would assume most everything gets locked out at those temps until the roots warmed for the day. Maybe that's to blame for the slightly diminished growth. If everything is going fine then I guess we all just learned that pot can grow in 30 degee nightime temps. I bet you won't ever have a bug problem.

Just thought I would add... Not only is that too cold for flowering plants, but temperature gradients have been attributed to increased stretching during the vegative, and pre-flowering cycles. You really should try and have the temperature's more consistent between night and day, in order to optimize your growing potential.
Check out Growers special in Cannabis culture of year 2000. Anyone know the exact issue? I would't mind buying it again for myself! I remember very interesting information on the the correlation between your plants turning purple and temperature gradients! Anyways, hope you get those temperatures moderated soon... good luck brotha!

My last flowering crop,temps were 80-85 daytime.50-55 night temps,Actually seen a increase in harvest by 15 % approx....Panama

Yes it was approx. 10 days longer,but increased bud production..A fair trade off...Panama

For what its worth, the issue that 4free is referring to is May/June 2000. I've never had a problem with temp differences so I have no first hand experience. But the article did say that temp variances can lead to stretching. Panama, was temp differences the only variable that was different between your two grows? anyways, 30 degree dark temp cant be good on your plants, get a space heater or something. good luck...
