Maximim Wattage

What are the maximum watts per square foot that can be efficiently used without augmenting the atmosphere with Co2 as well? I currently have a 150 watt HPS and a 250 watt HPS illuminating an area of approximately 4.25 square feet. I really have no room to spread them out-so I hope this 90W/ft. sq. or so is okay. The ventilation is decent and the air is well circulated (bigger fan than I need. The thermometer only challenges 85 at the plant tops in about the last hour/45minutes of the day cycle....what do y'all think?

Co2 would be beneficial but not necessary.You have adequate ventilation so they will do fine.90 watts/sq/ft will give you some decent bud!..IMHO..PEACE..

90 is fine. you should have some good nugs with that amount of light but keep your temps in check.

Will this level of wattage speed up the flowering process? I ask because I am continuing to have nute problems and I hope they survive to finish. The flowers are coming in nicely now (begginning of 5th week 12/12)-but some will have few or no fan leaves by the time they are finished.

flowering time is determined in the genes... I strongly beileve that more light will not speed up the process.
P.S.- WattsPerSquareFoot is innacurate, because the actual amount of wpsf is much higher than 90... You guys are measuring the height of the room to help determine watts per square foot. which is wrong. What should be measured is the distance in which the bottom of the light would be from the plants... SO... Watts Per Square foot will vary tremendously depending upon how high your light is...in my opinion this is way too innacurate to make a fair assesment.

Hey Jeez..It's accurate enough.Watts/sq/ft is not calculated using height as a measurement.Only length x width.This gives you the square fottage.Most growers will flower with lights probably not farther away than a foot from the tops anyways.Based on this it is quite accurate and quite useful in determining wattage needed.It's tried tested and true.Growers have been going by this for many years..IMHO..PEACE..

Oh shit.. im a dumbass sorry. I musta been thinkin watts per cube :). once again i apologize. Ya i was wonderin why so many growers would be using such an inaccurate method of measurement... im a little clouded today, ran out this morning and its 4:20 :(!
What the hell took you guys so long to correct me on that!! ive been saying that shit for months and no one said anything!

Yeah, I was just being hopeful...but I guess deep down I knew that flowering time is genetically determined. I'm just worried. I mean, my yield is already seriously affected-I'll probably get like 2 ounces off of nine plants-3 if lucky. I guess I should just be happy that I've kept these problems enough at bay so that the plants have not died yet. I can't for the life of me figure it out. I really have not fertilized that much, especially since transplanting to fresh soil at the begginning of 12/12 5 weeks ago (1.5 applications of 8-12-12). My guess is, and always has been that the PH of this particular potting soil is too high (lots of organic material=high salinity=high ph). I have used ironite on 2 plants and though they seem to have improved (ph now at just below 7.0)over the 5 days since application, the improvement has been less than dramatic. But...the plants seem to be flowering at the expected pace (based on the pics I see here. Also...when I switched the light cycle to 12/12 it did not make the problem worse (I've been told that overfert can be hidden until the plants are transpiring less moisture). Man, I just don't know...I guess I should just be patient and happy with the chronic that I know I'll harvest, instead of being like "shoulda, woulda, coulda". Any ideas?-I know this is kind of a rant!

I cant figure out why you are having these problems... What kind of nutes are you using and how much?? By this time you should be using them at full strength... Your nute problem could because of the lack of nutes. Have you flushed very well then started over on the nutes?? if not id try it.

That is the next step...flushing 2 this evening when they wake up. Using 2 part Alaska stuff at one half strength-but twice as often as I am supposed to. I just do not want to flush and then wait til next watering (water about every week)-because I want to add nutes while they really need them (they have between 4 and 6 weeks left). I guess Ill go for it though. BTW-is there a way to add oxygen to flushed pots to avoid minor overwatering damage?
