TDS Question and a Statement

Statement first... Since using the homemade Co2 method plant growth is NOTICEABLY quicker. So hope that helps. ALso the disposable Co2 meters came in today so I'll check Co2 levels at different heights.
Question about TDS meters. It's my understanding that TDS meters read the amount of disolved solids in a liquid. Other then that I have no idea what or how they are used.. how to read them etc. I was thinking that a TDS meter could diagnosis Overfert/underfert in a nutrient solution before it is applied.
Most of the folks using them I believe are growing hydroponically or DWC. Can a TDS meter used to test my nutrient/water solution prior to be added to the soil. I'm planning on moving to bubblers for my next grow on the East Coast.. would a TDS be a wise investment? How do I read them??? What types of readings should I be aiming for etc.
I was told this was another area where you didn't want to scrimp so if anybody has any recommendations I'd love to hear them as I'll buy the TDS meter in the next week and keep it for my next grow in bubblers or maybe use it to measure my watering solution.

8 cups water.. 2 cups shugar 1 packet of yiest. I'm still experimenting with different mixes of the formula.

If you can afford it,get a good one. I have a continious monitoring unit...it makes giving them the right levels of nutes at each stage of growth...seedlings=50-150ppms, small plants=400-800pms , large plants=900-1800ppms, unrooted clones=100-350ppms. just start low and increase over time. I got this from a post by one of the more experienced growers here for use in hydroponics,should be a good guide for soil too-as long as it's not one with ferts already in it.if it is,don't fert till whats in the soil is used up (your plants may have to tell you when). Check the bag for N-P-K #s and fert recomendations. If you get one for soil growing a tester rather than monitor is what you want. Either way, if you plan to go with any form of hydro it's a must have,and a worthwile investment for fine tuning your grows. BTW Thanks for all the good info on CO2. I'll be trying that soon too. .....PEACE....
