spidermites UGH!

Last fall I got some "babies" from a friend only to discover that the babes had mites!!! I treated these plants
with safersoap and put them in a newly built grow room, but this did not cure the problem so I had no choice but to shut down the room in December.(which really pissed me off) My question is this:now that spring is here how do I ensure that the mites have not made permanment living quarters out of my room thru out the winter? With no heat in the grow room for the last several months, do the mites die? The babes also had stopped growing,is this also because of the mites? I want to start a new crop soon but I'm not sure what do now. Help!!!!...

Cold temperatures will help to get rid of mites but what you really need to do is bleach the hell out of every square inch of that room. Dilute some bleach in a spray bottle, spray it all over. Come back and do this a few times, and wipe off any residue on your last application. Many things can inhibit plant growth including pests, underfert/overfert,underwater/overwater etc...

I have come to the conclusion that spidermites are like rats..You can't get rid of them,but only can control them..It is not in ones best interest to fumigate a residential grow...Hope this helps....Panama

Yeah, or like herpes. My experience (with outdoor at least) is that if you can control them you can consider yourself victorious, IMHO. Just try to make it to the flowering stage without getting totally infested...insect pests dislike THC.

I agree with Panama, I've come to terms with them as a constant threat. I've used Doktor Doom, Schultz's and Neem Oil(Einstein Oil). I now use Neem, or Schultz's when I don't want to mix anything. Neem is completely natural and I do really like the smell of Einstein Oil.

If you're right about pests disliking THC, then how come I have found webs on buds? I don't spray buds with any safersoap because the thought of smokin that shit grosses me out; much like the idea I might be smokin' mites,ewwwww! (LOL) So what do I do if this happens again? And thanks for the input, muchly appreciated....

I'm sure it is true that mites can and sometimes will heavily infest flowering plants-I've seen some harvested, dry nugs that looked nice from across the room but up close where obviously victims of mite infestation. I am not saying that this is the indelible truth (about THC being the plants natural defense against predation while in the reproductive cycle of its life)-but psychoactive/irritating/poisonous plant constituents are widespread throughout flora-so much though that many have rendered this theory about built in pest-control.
