Is this a Mag deficiency?

Here's a pic of a few of my plants. It's pretty obvious that this is my first grow.hehe... They're about 4 weeks old. As you can see, the one on the left is kinda scrawny and yellow. The stems are purplish is some areas, and the leave margins are curled up slighting giving the leaves a V-shaped cross section. I foliar fed it some nitrogen fertilizer a couple days ago, but that didn't do much but give it a few small fertilizer burns. Does this look like a magnesium deficiency?

It could be a deficiency-and if it is it indeed looks alot like a magnesium deficiency. Have you fertilized them at all yet?

The one on the left doesnt look like a Mg deficiency that I've encountered. If it is, you can know quickly by foliar feeding @ 1tsp per gallon of epsom salt. They recover quickly if thats the problemo. Werent you having ph problems at one time? Are these those? Anyway, when I saw the one on the left I thought N deficiency through ph. The one on the right looks fine, probably overferted and under-humidified. I've been reading lots like you, this is what I think about it. How far away are those lights of yours staying? Still in an inverted 'U' shape?

Well, I went and bought some epson salts anyway. If it is a magnesium deficiency, I think it may have occured as a result of too much calcium and potassium locking out mag. In the beginning, I had been using tap water, and I have pretty hard water where I live, so I may have accumulated a lot of calcium. I also overferted slightly with 20-30-20, so there may be too much potassium. It could be PH related, but the plant on the right has the same soil PH, and it is doing fine (though I am still constantly adjusting the PH). Definitly not under-humidified-- I live right by the ocean so it's always humid here.
They should be getting plenty of light. I have an Inverted U-shape of 8 4' long tubes, mixed cool white and warm white, which I leave on 24 hours. The top leaves are almost touching the tubes. Temperature stays between 70-80, and I have good ventilation.
Incidentally I had a problem with another plant, not shown in the pic. I think it had excessive bacteria. I flushed it, and the runoff smelled like shit (literally). I decided it was a lost cause because it was extremely stunted, so I dumped the plant in the trash. I think I'll add a little peroxide to my water next time, in case this is the cause.

Here is a closeup of the bottom leaves, which are most affected. They're wet because I just foliar fed it. They look noticably yellower since this morning. I just tested the PH and it is still around 7.4, unchanged despite a thorough watering with ph 5.5 water earlier today. Is there anything that could be causing the PH to stay so high? I've been trying to get my PH down for weeks and it just will not change. Can bacteria in the soil be raising the PH? My soil is earthgro potting soil mixed with perlite. I water with distilled water only, adjusted with PH down.

Have you flushed your plants at all-that might be a good troubleshoot to try-IMHO there is a chance that you may have an intolerable amount of salts/nute lockup

My soil mix is Earthgro potting soil with some perlite mixed in (dont know exact quantity). The soil PH is high right out of the bag (about 7.3). If I had known this I wouldn't have even used it, but I didnt haev a ph meter in the beginning. Next time I'll buy some better soil. Is miraclegro mix any good?
To answer the other question, my digital camera is an Olympus c3000z. I got in on sale for $523 (not including shipping). I dont remember the exact setting I used on those pics.. probably automatic white balance, iso 100, auto focus, aperture priority mode with fstop 2.8-3.0 for the close up, and I think around 3.4 for the shot of all the plants. A digital camera is a must for the first time grower...
