growing and..... music?!

Okay... i gotta ask... does anyone play tunes for their plants? Personally I don't believe the plants 'enjoy' music... but perhaps certain sound frequency ranges act as a catalyst to photosynthesis or other chemical processes... or the opposite perhaps... any opinions or anecdotes?

Go to Yahoo,and do a search on marijuana cultivation.Find James' Grow at home journal. I read this several years back.He claimed that playing classical music to his plants made them turn male.I don't endorse what he says,but I never took any chances,but then again I don't think my plants would like my taste in music,Kiss,Metallica,White Zombie,etc. Just my 2 cents,Peace........KY

This is a myth. If there is any correlation at all, it's likely due to the fact that when music is being played, people are usually nearby listening to it, and people create CO2, which causes the plants to grow more. Besides, with the music I play my plants would be dead by now if it had any effect...unless cannabis likes Gwar and Marilyn Manson, but that would be pretty hard to believe. Heh heh.

There have been a few studies that have examined the effects of music/voices on plant growth and health. I do not know how scientifically valid these studies were, but the general conclusion has been that music is not a factor. However, some studies have suggested that talking and singing to your plants may have some beneficial effects:of course these studies were on house plants.

If there is a connection I would say its because of the whole lifeforce thing. Plants respond to us, I am told and have found. When I dont come around my plants dont do as well even if they dont need any maintenance. I believe in a connectedness all living things share, so theres some rampant speculation for you. :-)

Maybe random speculation but apparently true too, at least in my experience. I have sung to and spoken to a number of little (or big) green friends and they seem to respond quite well-returning the ka to me in time. Of course, I have no basis for comparison because I have never not sung and spoken to my plants...it just seems natural to me.

Yep. I play music to my plants. I read about a study a few years ago where some guy played music to his tomatoes. The ones that got heavy metal music did the best. Yield up 30%, apparently. I don't listen to that much heavy metal, but I can really see the plants shake when I give them a dose of Nine Inch Nails.
Any kind of music that has a regular beat that's heavy enough to move enough air will benefit your plants. Try it if you don't believe me!
