I think I posted this link earlier, but it's such a useful site to look at when deciding what light source to use that I decided to post it again. http://www.aquabotanic.com/lightcompare.htm It's a comparison of the efficiency of light sources used to grow aquatic plants. The photosynthesis curve the lights were rated against was a generic one, and not some special aquatic plant photosynthesis curve, so it should apply just as well to growing pot. The most important value to look at is "PAReff uE/s/Watt", which is basically the ratio of usable electromagnetic enery compared to the watts used. I found it particularly interesting that the 32 watt philips adv850 fluorescent tubes rated highest of all (even higher than HPS).
