quartz light [Post#: 120356 ]

I was roaming around HD today and I noticed a 1500W quartz light for $35... I assume quartz is all the wrong spectrum right? a 1500W grow light for $35... to good to be true...

while we're on the subject of lights.. any one got any info about sulfur lights? I here they are super expensive but really good for growing.. maybe SanFran will find out for us :)

I think I've read something about quartz halogen lights..I could be wrong, but I think they have really short lives. A 1000 watt quartz halgogen will last only 400 hours (about 16 days).
I found a page on sulfur bulbs, though I dont really know much else about them. Try http://www.sulfurlamp.com. From what I've read they sound pretty interesting, but I don't know how much they cost.

One more thing about the sulfur lights-- they wont be commercially available until next year.

Hold up there, sulphur bulb technology is available now from www.biologictech.com. The lamps are expensive compared to HPS or MH, but they also have many benefits including higher efficiency, less heat, longer bulb life, and a more consistent spectrum over the life of the bulb. I have been tracking this technology since the High Times cover article several years ago but I haven't found any reports about their performance with cannabis.

The system on that site looks like it would be great except for the fact that it costs THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS! True, you'd probably grow much more than $2500 worth of pot in no time..but still, thats a lot of cash. Also, the only available wattage is around 1450 watts, which is too much juice for many people to handle. I'm waiting for the price to come down, and for smaller systems (like 400 watts) to come out.

Yeh..if I were a millionaire I'd order one of those sulfur lamps. I've heard they can do the job much much better than HIDs. Can't wait til the price drops a little bit.
