Mounties' web site now admits that the exchange of cocaine for Canadian marihuana on a pound for pound ratio is "an urban legend." "Wholesale cocaine sells for $10,000 US to $18,000 US per kilo. Wholesale prices for marihuana in the USA range between $4,000 and $8,000 per kilo. Any exchange at par would obviously not constitute a sound commercial transaction."

MEDICAL MARIJUANA'S EFFECT ON CRIME DISCOUNTED
Law enforcement officials in four of the states that allow medical use of marijuana say the laws have had minimal impact on crime-fighting, although they at times complicate prosecution of drug cases, a congressional report said yesterday.

Out of those in Oregon, Hawaii and Alaska who use marijuana for medical purposes, more than 70 percent of registered users were age 40 or older.
