British and French magazines are putting Canada on the cover. For Canada, this is weird. 'Canada is hip'? TV host Bill Maher tells CNN's Larry King on July 31st 2003. Because, says Maher, it seems to represent the values that America is supposed to believe in: liberty, freedom of speech and social progress. Ironically, many young Americans flock to Canada to taste freedom, which they even romanticize as the 'new Amsterdam' (Vancouver is nicknamed 'Vansterdam'). Almost all the major Canadian cities now have operating pot cafés. Canada is no Holland, but marijuana has simply become an integrated part of the Canadian lifestyle.
