Re: The Summer of Legalization Smoke-Out Tour: Prince George
gir,
Thu Aug 28 15:06:44 2003 First off, as i live in the north BC, even further north than PG, I was horrified to hear that the police there killed someone with a Tazer gun. I know that the RCMP send many green recruits up north to gain experience, though i believe Marc said it was the police that did this so mabye it is not the RCMP. Hopefully the picketing and public outrage that Marc mentioned will hopefully force some direct change in the aggresiveness of some of the policing force in northern communities. While i know of a few positive stories of RCMP in northern BC, such as the time a RCMP car rolled up to my friends car we hotboxed when we were young. As we were in a popular spot for people to smoke pot outside of town and were stoned and laughing we never realized it was a RCMP until my friend had rolled down the window after we heard a knock and proceeded to pass the joint left to officer. Even years after i still grin at that thought. All this officer did, not mentioning names as not to get an obviously cool cop into trouble for using discretion was talk with us for a minute ask us if we had been drinking, to which we responded to as no. He then told us to have fun and drive safe and left. He never even took the joint away that my friend had mistakenly offered to him, he never even mentioned it or the thick wall of smoke that hit him when the window was rolled down. Ie from that experience i could easily sumize that this officer did not feel that smoking pot imparied driving but did think that alcohl did. Saddly as positive as that story is i know many more stories of atrocities and offences committed by some of the more zelous officers than I do know positive ones. Example, the beating a drunk and extremely large native man with several officers while using phone books as not to leave bruises. This man was the father of a friend of mine. Off topic slightly but a good story.
I am thrilled to see Marc so charged up. Keep up the good work Marc as I believe if the supreme court does little or nothing to have pot legal and reconized in Canada this provides a great legal platform to continue cause. I hope you accomplish all the goals you had when you started this tour Marc, best wishes. discuss this show in the CC forums >
