I go to highschool and if a cop comes here and tries that DARE bullshit i will refuse to participate and will encourage others to do so.

DARE has just been introduced to a whole bunch of elementary schools in my city... This is pathetic. There were interviews on t.v. of what kids learned and what parents thought of it... The parents thought it was GRRREAT! It's sad to know that DARE is brainwashing these little kids who don't know any better, and their parents are going along with it, and all the while, they're getting brainwashed as well...
As for DARE coming into high schools, that's a joke. High school teens have a bit more knowledge than the elementary grades. Everyone in high school knows a pot head, if they aren't one themselves, and they see that pot isn't doing anything bad to the user. Does DARE, and the principal's who endorse the program, really think that a cop coming in to lecture these kids about the dangers of drugs is really going to help? In gr. 6, I believed the officer. Now, I would LAUGH at him/her.
But even if DARE isn't in a school, almost every secondary school has some type of drug awareness program. My high school teaches about the dangers of drugs in gr. 9 gym class. For about 3 weeks, the class learns about alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana, and all the hard drugs. Basically, we are all taught the same thing as the DARE program teaches. It's pathetic.
The schools think that LIES are the only way to stop teens from doing drugs. This applies to a lot of things. In gr. 11, religion classes go to a nearby church to hear a priest talk about sex. At first, the holy man seems very nice. I remember sitting there, and thinking "wow, this guys honest. Maybe I won't laugh at him, and I'll pay attention." I felt like I knew enough about the "dangers" of sex, but I listened anyway. Well, after a while this priest started telling a bunch of lies in an effort to make all of us hate sex. Isn't sex a special thing? Isn't it supposed to be enjoyed? This guy made it seem like sex was "evil", even painful. He started telling us "facts", lies about how there are about 5 different ways to get a woman pregnant, without actually ejaculating. What a load of crap. I did some research when I got home; half of what he said was a load of bull.
This just goes to show you that the adults of today have no faith in teens. They feel we can't handle anything. Sorry for the long post everyone... STOP DARE! STOP THE LIES! FIRE THE PRIEST!

In our society it seems that authority figures feel the need to lie in order to get across there point. Cops lie to us teachers, priests and even parents. They think that just beacause there speaking to kids they can make up a bunch of BS. The thing about the priest just opens a whole new issue about the christian religion. Most christians are great people becasue they usually have a life outside of there religion. I know some people though that have no life outside of the church and talking to them makes me sad. They have been lied to about so many things there whole life that they are afraid to meet new people or try new things. The schools are somewhat similar. People who are easily molded and manipulated get roped into making one of these "anti drug" groups in the school where they spend an amzing amount of time doing things like: making a poster saying that "dope makes you a dope". hey you know what? I think that i will stop smoking bud because that poster says that im gonna be a dope Not fuckin likely

I hear you Ben...
Teachers, cops, even parents don't know what they're doing. Good intentions, bad ways of solving the problem.
Take this example: A lot of teens smoke cigarettes. There are many ads, commercials, etc. that show what cig's can do to you, and they've worked. A lot of people have stopped smoking, or will never smoke on a regular basis. But there are still a group of parents who feel that the only way to stop teens from smoking is to make sure that they can't obtain cigarettes. Their motto goes something like "They can't smoke 'em if they can't get 'em". Now, ofcourse this is true. But is this really the way to handle things? I don't think so. Good intentions, bad results.
Trying to get rid of cigarettes, or marijuana, is impossible. Yet people still think that this is the only way to handle things.

I'm getting a DARE-esque program in my grade 8 phys-ed/health class. At first I was pleasantly surprised to hear about this, since I can get my teacher to understand the harmlessness of most drugs if used NOT abused. One day we were talking about marijuana, and he was explaining all the bad aspects of smoking. I told him that it is impossible to overdose on pot, and that no deaths have been recorded. Then I asked him if there were any medicinal uses of the herb (knowing there are). He told me that there were not any widely accepted uses. I told him that if the government accepts it (with more than 100 legal exemptees) as a medical herb, I count that as quite widely accepted. He didn't have anything to say to that comment. :)

Just keep spreading your knowledge about marijuana... Let them know the truth. You are one of the few who know the truth about marijuana, so spread the word! Just remember to be fair, listen to what they have to say. How would you like it if someone came up to you and proved you wrong on a topic that you believed all your life? Break it to them easily...

wow Your pretty young, althought i was younger when i started. I did have the D.A.R.E program,and it was a joke. It was the first year they had it, and of cores i already knew about drugs. To me d.a.r.e is a program to get kids to tell on there parents,and it dates back to the chech and chong area. Meaning Mr. stadanko if thats the right spelling. Its like this if you let your kids in the program it parable they could nark. On the other hand if you don't let your kids in its a given, unfortunately this is another way to get the insensate person to jail. To me drugs, are, relly, expensive, D.A.R.E.
