The Summer of Legalization Smoke-Out Tour with Pot-TV

The Vancouver Police are addicted to rousting, hassling, strip searching, intimidating largely young people over pot possession and they don't want to surrender that control.

Thats basically the message from BC Solicitor-General Rich Coleman and the Vancouver Police. According to the Vancouver police, 'marijuana possession is illegal' even though the courts are adamant in BC and Ontario that in fact, the courts have struck down the marijuana possession prohibition.

Will you join me at 4.00 p.m. Thursday, September 18 at the Vancouver Police Headquarters, Cambie and 5th, where I will smoke a marijuana joint (a fairly large one, I may add) to dare the Vancouver Police to charge me with the obsolete marijuana prohibition offenses the courts have nullified.

There was about 50 reporters from every news outlet in Vancouver surounding Marc with their equipment and on the outside of circle about 40 to 30 surporters. It was nearly impossible for the crowd to hear marc speak but like manna from heaven over 50 joints were quickly dispersed amoung the crowd. There was a point where there was no one to pass to everyone had one lit . "photo op " called out the reporters as marc emery pulled out the 15 gram BC pinner he had personally rolled using many papers .
The cameramen and reporters spread out interviewing many activists including david malmo levine whose case is now before supreme court of canada and Steve Bauer who was recently on the news with his posse which included a grining girl who held up a bc marijuana party sign throught the press conferance .
The amount of media exposure for our issues was phenominal having 'emailed to a friend' the relevant links to cfox and the news stations seemed to have paid off.
The 15 gram joint seriously got to everyone and outlasted the journalists and they slowly disperesed . Two brits were there who filmed Green Britian for last years drug war vigil video contest on pot tv were there as well.www.greenbritain.com .As well as other amateur film makers filming for pot tv projects .
The police stayed inside their headquarters and didn't venture out even after the press was gone no one was arrested . The party back at headquarters was a victory one .

The citizens should find it outrageous that police not only don't know the laws, but feel they can make it up as they go along. If drinking orange juice in public is NOT illegal, how and why would you try to arrest somebody for putting another harmless substance into their OWN body?

Regarding laws.... it was once illegal for blacks and women to vote. Would it be okay if police decided on their own to reinstitute those archaic laws?? No.

Law enforcement is a community SERVICE and should be treated as such. I totally agree with what Marijuana Man once said, "as PUBLIC SERVANTS they are not entitled to an opinion". (regarding policy decisions) When they get off work, they can go lobby and vote like anyone else, but while representing the law enforcement community as a publicly funded entity, they are merely to SERVE and PROTECT the public interest.

Is it alright for police to enforce a "law" that isn't a law, because it is their interpetation of the law? Are the police revolting against the courts? Are the police revolting against the LAWS? (Gee, guess what happens to you if YOU do that!) If there is a law passed telling the police the speed limit increased, would they than go out and ticket people for driving just over the previous speed limit because they don't agree with the new law??

Police and politicians ARE different entities. Each has a specific responsibility to the public in their job. However, until we allow politicians to patrol our streets with guns, speeding cars, warrants and shackles, we cannot allow police to make decisions controling written law or public policy.
