Clogged emitters

I recently set up a drip hydroponic setup but I am plagued with problems. The biggest problem is the
drip emitters keep getting clogged up, preventing fresh nutrients from being supplied to the plant. The
first time it happened I immediately took apart the whole system and cleaned it out. I also switched to
spring water from tap water for the nutrient solution. The problem has happened again, rather rapidly
this time, and I am concerned this system is going to fail me. What am I doing wrong? The plants are
young, and I mix the solution at 2/3 strength. The water in the reservoir has a visible film of crystallized
nutrients floating on the top. When the water evaporates a white powder covers anything that it
touched. I am thinking of putting a cheese-cloth at a crucial spot in the system, but I really would
appreciate some experienced advice here. Thanks a lot.

What you need is a Israeli irrigation filter assembly that fits inline after your pump. When used along with a nomal pre-filter it will knock out that problem of cloged emitters. The unit filters out anything bigger than 130 microns so you dont have to worry much about clogs. You say that when the second time the emitters clogged it happened faster....you might have build up in them from the water, if so soak them in vinager overnite, rinse well. You can get this at:

screw the emmitters and just run staright lines , put em on a timer say half hour on half off sumtin like that
never again will u have a dripper clog :)

Yeah that's what I did, except I just run the solution constantly. Any problem associated with that?

i use emmitters dripped over hydrocorn. the emmiters i have are the cleanable ones not sure what you have. i have a big indoor garden So it is part of my daily rutine to clean a section daily. big deal so you spend an hour a day cleaning them. my emmiters can normally go 3 -4 days with out cleaing. i did have my plants on a flood system but i hate moving all that water. water disasters suck. you can get the raindrip cleanable emmiteras at most big home improvement stores.

o yea do you have an air stone in your resevor? helps keep the water fresh and circulated.

I'd aerate the nutrient solution. Just use an aquarium pump with an airstone or two in the reservoir and you should solve the problem. I know that if one of my bubblers slows down cause of a plugged airstone, the water gets a scum on top and the plant starts to die. They cannot live in sitting water very well. peace

no emitters and no airstones = no cloged lines its too easy.
BTW, just curious what brand of nutes are you using?
