Newshawks: Marijuana-grow operations rising

CTV News. Indoor marijuana-growing operations are not only posing a growing risk to public safety, they are costing consumers millions in stolen electricity, according to a report by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. The report, "Green Tide: Indoor Marijuana Cultivation and its Impact on Ontario" found the operations are located in all areas of the country -- from rural to urban, commercial to residential. "They are largely controlled by organized crime, endanger children and their families and cost our economy millions of dollars in stolen electricity," said association president Chief Ean Algar following release of the study Wednesday.

Former health Minister Anne McLellan, Canadian Health Council head Michael
Decter and BC Health Services Minister Colin Hansen (via videolink) gathered at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto on December 9, 2003 to announce the creation of the Canadian Health Council, which ostensibly is to bring accountability to the Canadian health care system.
Canadians for Safe Access and POT-TV were there, too, to ask Minister McLellan why her department is ignoring court rulings and hurting sick Canadians by cutting funding for clinical trials (when at the same time saying they are actively researching cannabis).
