The Criminal Code gives the Minister of Justice the power to review a conviction to determine whether there may have been a miscarriage of justice. This power has been part of Canada's justice system since the original Criminal Code of 1892. Today, the Minister's power to review convictions is set out in sections 696.1-696.6 in Part XXI.1 of the Criminal Code.

'The New Statesman': 'H*A*S*H'
Rik Mayall stars 'The New Statesman', a British comedy that might be described as a combination of 'Yes, Minister' and 'Blackadder'. This is the story of the ruthless Alan B'Stard, a statesman in the tradition of Genghis Khan, who will stop at nothing to make himself richer and more comfortable. In this episode, titled 'H*A*S*H', there is a possibility that Cannabis could be legalised. Piers has been told to do the right thing for England when it comes up for a vote; problem is that he has forgotten what the right thing is! This could be the start of the biggest scam Alan has done in a long time, but the people already in the (illegal) industry may have something to say about the matter.
